Ocean Beaches are over the hill past Tutukaka.
Whangaumu Bay (aka Wellingtons Bay) is on the turn off to Tutukaka called Tutukaka Block Rd right at the end – lovely white sand and safe for fishing and swimming.
Matapouri Bay is a horseshoe bay of white sand with stunning views of the Poor Knights Islands and mermaids pools which a fabulous to swim and snorkel in (ask the locals how to get there).
Whale Bay is reached via a very scenic 10 minute walk down a track and the beach is postcard paradise. The car park is at the top of a hill on a very sharp corner past Tutukaka. It is advisable to leave valuables at home.
Wooleys Bay and Sandy Bay are where the surf meets the earth and are over the hill past Whale Bay. Large with lots of white sand.
