Omaha's expansive beach is never crowded, even at the height of summer. The surf lifesaving club is 200m along the beach and is patrolled by New Zealand’s famous Surf Lifesaving organisation. At the south end of the beach are rock pools and rock fishing. At the north end is a channel through to a boat anchorage and all-tide boat ramp. The sheltered water here is fantastic for water skiing, wind/kite-surfing, kid’s dinghies and simply splashing around. There is superb fishing on the coast and, by boat, Little Barrier Island provides fishing and game fishing.

Further along the peninsular is one of Auckland’s crown jewels - the Tawharanui Regional Park which has more amazing beaches, sea caves, walks, Gulf views and a protected area for New Zealand’s unique bird life. A few minutes drive northeast is the village of Leigh (more cafes and a classic New Zealand village fishing harbour). Just five minutes further is Goat Island marine sanctuary where families can dive and snorkel to see all manner of sea-life from New Zealand kina to giant rays.
The house is about 90 minutes north of Auckland airport, and the spectacular main highway passes the beautiful Wenderholm and Mahuragi regional parks, along high ridge roads and deep valleys, lush with New Zealand native vegetation.
